LMC performers Ute Freund (soprano), Yoonjung Lee (cello), and Dr. Mia HyeYeon Kim (piano) will participate in Alliance Française de Seattle’s Joyeux Bazaar—a global holiday market supporting artisans and nonprofits.
LMC will perform from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (see program further below). Come visit the bazaar, see and hear local artists, and stay to hear LMC members in concert!
Also performing that day are: Choirs from the French-American School of Puget Sound, French Immersion School of Washington, and North Seattle French School; Syrena Polish Dance Group; Jean Chaumont Trio; and Kwetu Band.

Dr. Mia HyeYeon Kim, piano

Dr. Alexander Agate began studying piano at 11 years old under Mona Wu DeCesare in his hometown of Moorpark, CA. While he participated in child acting, practiced Tae Kwon Do, writing, and violin and viola, at 16 he decided to pursue classical piano performance and studied with Robert Thies before beginning his collegiate journey at California State University, Northridge under Dmitry Rachmanov. Following CSUN, Alexander received a full-tuition scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music under Andre-Michel Schub, where he completed his Master’s and Doctorate Degrees (for which he was awarded the Helen Cohn award for an Outstanding DMA graduate). He frequents international competitions, having most recently won the recording prize at the 2024 Sicily International Piano Festival and Competition and silver medal at the 2025 Frances Walton Competition, as well as top prizes at the American International Paderewski Competition, and Dallas International Piano Competition. Currently, he balances a private teaching studio, competitions, concertizing, and writing.

The Maple Quartet was formed in 2022 by Isabel Chen, Magali Pelletey, John Crowley, and Gabriel Hennebury at the Eastman School of Music, where they recently graduated from the Music Performance program. In 2024, the Maple Quartet was awarded the Eastman School’s Celentano String Quartet Award for the second time, which acknowledges an undergraduate quartet with outstanding ability. Recent performances include collaborations with Robin Scott and Chiao-Wen Cheng on Eastman’s Faculty Artist Series. Additionally, they were finalists at the 2025 Coltman Chamber Music Competition, the 2025 Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, where they received an honourable mention, and silver medalists at the 2025 Frances Walton Competition. The Quartet has received guest instruction from prominent chamber musicians such as the Takács Quartet, Belcea Quartet, JACK Quartet, Peter Oundjian, Peter Salaff, Peter Slowik, Itamar Zorman, and Jesse Mills. The group’s primary coaches include members of the Ying and Verona Quartets, and professors David Bowlin, Masumi Per Rostad, and Mimi Hwang.
