New Afternoon Concert Series at Crossroads Community Center

LMC kicks off the 17-18 season at the Crossroads Community Center with a new time and day: Thursdays at 1:00pm

The series is sure to appeal to seniors, home school families and people who work in the neighborhood who want to enjoy music with their lunch.

Dates and Programming Planned:

Thursday, November 9 – Russian Opera of the 19th Century
Thursday, January 11 – Music of Spain and South America, solo piano, guitar and vocal music
Thursday, February 8 – Violin sonatas by Beethoven and Grieg
Thursday, March 8 – Soprano recital and instrumental recital TBA
Thursday, April 12 – Music by Schubert for solo voice and for violin, cello and piano trio

As with all of our concerts, this series is FREE and open to the public

Midge Bowman, Former Executive Director of the Frye collaborates on Debussy Concert, Nov 4

Midge Bowman, Former LMC President, Exec Director Emeritus of the Frye

Former Executive Director of the Frye Art Museum and Past President of the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle, Midge Bowman, will be the special guest speaker at LMC’s “The Life and Works of Claude Debussy” concert on Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 PM.  Midge will guide the audience through Debussy’s life as well as the development of his compositions over three distinct periods.

A one hour program of solo piano and vocal works as well as the first movement of the Debussy’s only cello sonata will be performed by LMC members.

Midge holds degrees in Music History from Pomona College and Yale University, and has done doctoral work at the Fielding Institute. Her writings have appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Puget Soundings, USA Today, Perspectives of New Music, and numerous educational newsletters.

Geisa Dutra, piano, named a 2017 4Culture Grant Recipient and Touring Artist

LMC member pianist Geísa Dutra is the recipient of a 2017 4CULTURE Grant Award and the 2013 Artist Trust GAP Award in Seattle. A foremost performer of Ibero-Latin American art music, her recordings include: Brazilian and Spanish Piano Works; Chopin – Preludes; El Ultimo Tango – Six Tangos by Astor Piazzolla and The Spanish Piano. She has recorded for NPR and music radio stations in the United States and television in Brazil. Her debut in Europe was described as “A brilliant evening” (Wolluwe News, Brussels) and England’s Nottingham Evening Post reported, “It was a privilege and a treat to hear pianist Geísa Dutra… a gorgeous range of expression.” WWW.GEISADUTRA.COM

September 10-14 in Yakima, Chelan, Omak, Raymond, Sekiu and Ferndale

Seattle, WA — August 23, 2017 — Ladies Musical Club of Seattle (LMC) will present six FREE public concerts in Eastern and Western Washington to showcase the musical talents of the winners from its recent 2017 Frances Walton Competition that was held in Seattle. Competition winners, ages 20-35 from all over the world, include Xiao Chen, piano; Xenia Deviatkina-Loh, violin; Yasmina Spiegelberg, clarinet; and Hannah Leffler, flute. The international artists will present six FREE classical music concerts plus school visits in communities that have limited access to live classical music. LMC has sponsored these popular, educational state tours since 1990. The artists will be featured on Classical KING FM 98.1 NW Focus Live on September 8 and 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Hannah Leffler, flute joins the 2017 LMC Award tour

Following the withdrawal of guitarist,  Bokyung Byun, guitar, FWC alternate Hannah Leffler, flute has been named as our newest Frances Walton Competition and Award Tour recipient.  She will join our other winners in September on the Award tour Washington schools. Welcome aboard, Hannah!
